Matrescence support is not about fixing yourself. It is about understanding yourself
during a significant developmental transition.
Our services are grounded in evidence-based psychological models, including Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). These approaches support emotional regulation, psychological flexibility and
the development of a compassionate, resilient sense of self.
We offer carefully designed, small-group and individual spaces for mothers who want
thoughtful, psychologically grounded support.
You do not have to navigate this becoming alone. Becoming Mum is here to help.
Antenatally
Antenatal Workshops
Many people's preparation for the birth focuses solely on the baby. We focus on changes new mothers are about to experience too.
Our antenatal workshops introduce the science and psychology of matrescence, and the shifts in emotional experience, relationships and identity that accompany becoming a mother.
Sessions explore
The neurological and psychological changes of matrescence
Shifting values and identity
Common emotional responses to early motherhood
Building coping strategies for overwhelm and uncertainty
Cultivating self-compassion ahead of birth
The aim is to offer a psychological roadmap, so that when change unfolds, it feels
understandable rather than destabilising.
Workshops are thoughtfully tailored for private groups, healthcare settings and
organisations.
Postnatally
Postnatal Groups
First Year of Motherhood
4-week closed group | In person | 60-minute sessions | Babies welcome and encouraged.
This is not a baby class. It is a psychologically informed space for you.
Each group is facilitated by an experienced Clinical Psychologist who is also a
mother. Sessions blend structured therapeutic content with space for reflection and
connection.
Drawing from evidence based psychological therapies, across the 4 sessions, you'll gain:
A clearer understanding of the emotional and identity shifts of motherhood
So you can make sense of what’s happening, rather than feeling like something is “wrong”
Clarity around what matters to you in this stage of life
Helping you to reconnect with your values rather than just getting through each day
Practical tools to manage overwhelm, anxiety and overstimulation
Simple, realistic strategies you can use in the moment (even on very little sleep)
Ways to soften self-criticism, let go of “perfect mum” pressure and develop a more compassionate internal voice
Learning how to respond to yourself with more compassion, not judgement
Space to explore the parts of motherhood that feel complicated
Including ambivalence, loss of self, changes in relationships, and unexpected emotions
Connection with other like minded mums who are going through similar experiences
Reducing isolation and creating a validating and non judgement space
